What is Heart Pine?

Heart pine is the center of the tree that has hardened and dried to a rich, dark color. Heart pine is often used in flooring due to how well it wears.

Where do you get your Antique Heart Pine?

Our antique heart pine is recovered from old textile mills, tobacco barns and other historic buildings. We get most of our timbers from the southern states, where many mills and barns were constructed in the late 1800s. Builders favored heart pine during that time due to it being rot and insect resistant. As harvesting methods improved, the supply of virgin timber was depleted around 1925 and is no longer found except in vary rare nature preserves.

Will my wood flooring expand and contract?

It is normal for wood to expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity.To minimize this effect and to prepare your wood for installations, it should be acclimated for 10-15 days. Please schedule a delivery date according to the acclimation period.

I have designed a piece of furniture for my home, can you build it?

Very possibly. Send us your picture/drawing/dimensions/description. We will evaluate the piece and get back to you with an answer of if we can build your custom piece or not. We will also have an estimate prepared for you.

I really like your furniture, but the piece I want is too large for my space. Can you adjust the size to fit my room?

In most cases, yes. Give us a call or send us an email to let us know which piece you want and what size you need it to be.

What are my payment options?

At this time, we are not set up to order online. However, you can order by telephone and pay with your credit card, or mail a check to:

Stock furniture orders must be paid prior to shipping. Custom pieces such as custom furniture, flooring, beams and stair treads require a 50% deposit to begin crafting. The balance is due prior to shipping. There are no refunds on custom pieces.

What is your return policy?

Stock furniture and accessory orders are refundable with an "In Store Credit". You must notify SHW within 7days of delivery if you plan to return your purchase.

There are no returns on custom pieces. This includes custom furniture, flooring, beams and stair treads.

How will you ship my purchase?

Most orders are shipped with a freight company. We will shop to find the lowest rate for your delivery.

Shipping and handling charges are not included in pricing and are the buyers responsibility or your order can be picked up at our facility in Sylvester, Georgia, home of Peter Pan Peanut Butter.

When will my order ship?

Normal processing time is 4-6 weeks. Orders will ship as the pieces are created and final payment has been received. There are times, particularly with our stock furniture, that the order can be filled sooner. If you have a piece in mind, call us and we can give you a better idea of processing time. Some larger orders could take additional time.

If you are building, moving or remodeling and are not ready to take delivery, we encourage you to take advantage of our warehouse facility. We will store your pieces for up to 6 months at no additional charge.

I am building a home and would like to use your flooring, when should I place my order to ensure the wood has arrived in time for installation?

We strongly encourage customers to take advantage of our warehouse facility by placing the order as far in advance as possible. Do you offer installation?

Not at this time. In some cases, we can recommend a contractor, but they are not employed by Southern Heritage Woodworks.
